What is Blue-Green Algea?
Blue-green algea is a toxin-producing cyanobacteria usually found in ponds, rivers and lakes.
Blue-green algea blooms can be found in stagnant water and is more likely to be found in warm weather or after a period of no rain. Blue-green algea bloom look like green or brown coloured mats on the water and there will be a very potant smell of rotting compost coming from the water that has blue-green algea present.

Blue-green algea can be extremely serious and life threatening. If your dog has swam or drank from a source of water that contains the blue-green algea then chances are they are gong to start suffering with the toxicity. It's the algea blooms that cause the toxicity and these blooms are the over growth of cyanobacteria.
If your dog is intoxicated with the algea then your dog could go into liver failure, neurological injury, respiratory arrest and even death!
Symptoms that your dog maybe under attack from the blue-green algea toxins are
* vomiting.
* diarrhea.
* weakness.
* collapsing.
* pale gums.
* difficulty breathing.
* seizures.
* muscle tremors.
These symptoms can happen in minutes or hours and its a fight against the clock when they do appear to save yor dogs life! Blue-green algea poisoning can be life threatening!!
What to do to avoid green-lue algea and what to do if our dog has been in, infected water.
If you become aware that a local water source has been effected with the blue-green algea, and your dog has recently has recenty been incontact with the water, they need bathing staright away! You also need to be giving your dog Granulated charcoal to help fight the toxixity in your dogs body, then you need to get to a vet as soon as POSSIBLE!
Prevention is always better so avoid stagnant water play times, always make sure there is movement and check closely for the algea blooms on the surface of the water. If your usure then do not let your dog into the water at all.
